Does your dog nearly pull your arm out of it's socket when you are out for a walk?
If so, sounds like you need a new dog!
Or you can try these remedies....
1. Ensure the restraint is correct for your dog. A harness that fits snugly around your dogs torso is very effective in maintaining control. A correctly fitted harness prevents your dog from slipping out of the restraint. A collar that fits around the neck actually allows for lunging because pressure around that area invites pulling and lunging.
2. Shorten the lead. A long lead allows your dog to pull and lunge. The lead should not be tort. It should be relaxed. Make sure you don't give to much slack. Make the lead as short as possible without being tort.
3. Keep to known paths. Take your dog for a walk where she has been before. New paths and areas can over stimulate a dog and cause the her to pull in excitement. Keep to familiar areas at least until you can get the pulling under control.
4. Remember why. Going for a walk is for most dogs the best part of the day. It is normal for a dog to get excited. Just the idea of going for a walk is stimulating. He will probably amp up at the site of the lead right? Well it all starts before you leave the house. It's important for you to remain calm. Don't excite the dog. Dog make a big deal about the pending walk.
5. Keep him by your side. You are the leader of the pack, not your dog. Don't allow him to be out in front. He should walk by your side and keep him to one side in particular.
