For the last few months I've been doing a bit of house sitting. Some great, some good and some bad.

This post is about a great house sit I did recently in Rosebrook, 3.5 hours south west of Melbourne.

I'll start with the house sit itself. It was rural and remote, peaceful and relaxing.

I had plenty of animals to look after which included 2 x dogs, 1 x cat, 1 x duck, 2 x sheep, 7 x chickens and 12 x cows.

There was also a wonderful vegetable garden which produced far more food than I could ever eat.

The closest town was a tiny little place called Port Fairy. What it lacks in size it makes up for in charm and character.

I saw it as a very typical, old school Victorian country town. Slow paced with very few shops and a pub on every corner. It's a popular little tourist town with nice ocean beaches and walking tracks.

About an hour drive further south from Port Fairy is Portland. as far as towns go it's a bit average. It's an old style industrial port city wich didn't offer me anything except a gateway to some beautiful coastal walks and scenic locations.

There are some awesome walking tracks in this area such as the Enchanted Forest which is much more attractive than the photos show and the Lighthouse cliff walk which is remote and rugged.

An hour's drive in the opposite direction from Port Fairy and along the coast is the Great Ocean Road. This is a road trip I've always wanted to check out and I'm happy I did. The only downfall is the amount of tourists that are along the journey. Especially at the Twelve Apostles site (a collection of limestone stacks off the shore of the Port Campbell National Park). I wasn't expecting this site to be so packed with people or have a commercial feel to it as the cafe and visitor centre gives off.
