Wroclaw, Poland

With just a few days left before I had to leave Berlin to head for Scotland I wanted to get away for the weekend. So, I figured why not head over the border and into Poland.
Ideally, I wanted to go to Krakow but that was just a little too far for a weekend. I will need longer than a couple of days for that. I chose a spot a little closer to home.

Wroclaw is about 4 hours from Berlin by bus. It’s, I guess, a medium sized city and not one that really offers much to a traveller or tourist. What it does have is a lovely old town (most European cities do) and a relaxed atmosphere. The people are chilled and friendly. As it’s not a big tourist destination there are also not that many folks around.

The walks along the river are easy and enjoyable and as it was a weekend there were quite a few activities going on such as some traditional boat racing.
A short tram ride took me out of the city and into one of a few natural reserves that are scattered around the area. Here I could see Japanese influenced gardens mingled with European.

I did treat myself a bit though. This was the first time I had a “luxury” apartment since I don’t know when.

All up it was a cheap weekend. Nothing fantastic but simple, comfortable and relaxing.
