Grey concrete buildings. Big beers. Historical places of interest. More train rides than I can count. And the cold. These are the things that I will remember the most from my time in Berlin.

If Berlin has rules then I have no idea what they are. It's a very liberal and allowable kind of place.

The food and drinks were very tasty and pretty cheap. I love their beer. The Italian restaurant, Il Gusto Italiano, close to where I stayed (there were two places to eat, that and a Vietnamese restaurant) was great value for money. I think I ate there four times. After the first, I was a regular. They sat me at the best table and gave me free food. Bonus!

So many people and other tourists I've met told me I just had to go to Berlin. I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't blown away either. As I've said before I reckon it's the wrong time of year. And maybe not the spot for a solo traveler.

One thing Berlin did afford me was time to think (like I need time for that) and write.
